About Us The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a non-profit organisation committed to eradicating hunger and malnutrition among school children in India. Established in 2000, our mission is to provide nutritious, hygienic, and wholesome mid-day meals to children in government and government-aided schools. By addressing classroom hunger, we aim to improve educational outcomes, reduce dropout rates, and promote holistic development. As the world’s largest NGO-run school meal program, Akshaya Patra works in close partnership with the Government of India, state governments, corporations, and philanthropists to make a lasting impact on millions of children’s lives. Our Vision “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.” Our Mission To feed 3 million children every school day by 2025, ensuring they receive nutritious meals that empower them to learn, grow, and build a brighter future. Our Impact Serving over 2 million children daily across 15 states and 2 Union Territories. Operating 66 centralised and decentralised kitchens to prepare fresh, hygienic meals. Over 3.5 billion meals served since inception. Partnering with government and private sector donors to expand reach. Enhancing nutrition, academic performance, and school attendance rates. Our Meal Program Akshaya Patra’s Mid-Day Meal Program is implemented through two types of kitchens: Centralised Kitchens Large-scale state-of-the-art facilities designed for urban and semi-urban areas. Advanced technology ensures hygienic and efficient food preparation. Can produce up to 100,000 meals per day. Centralised Kitchens Community-run kitchens in remote rural areas where infrastructure is limited. Operated by trained women self-help groups, promoting women empowerment. Nutritional Value Every meal is designed to provide balanced nutrition, including: Rice/Chapati – Source of carbohydrates Dal/Sambar – Rich in proteins Vegetables – Essential vitamins and minerals Our Initiatives In addition to the Mid-Day Meal Program, Akshaya Patra runs several initiatives to uplift communities: 1. Feeding Programs Beyond Schools Anganwadi Feeding – Providing meals to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and toddlers. Disaster Relief Feeding – Serving food to affected communities during natural calamities. 2. Digital Education Smart Classrooms & E-Learning Modules to bridge the digital divide. 3. Women Empowerment Training and employing women from underprivileged backgrounds in kitchen operations.
